This 6-day expedition from Errachidia to Marrakech is a complete immersion into the heart of Morocco’s most iconic landscapes. Beginning at the gateway to the desert, you will journey deep into the Sahara to experience authentic nomadic culture, ride camels over golden dunes, and sleep under a blanket of stars.
The adventure continues through dramatic gorges, lush valleys, and ancient kasbahs, featuring a walk in the towering Todra Gorge and a visit to the cinematic ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. Culminating with a guided tour of the vibrant “Red City,” this tour offers a profound connection to desert life, mountain beauty, and imperial history.
Upon your arrival at Errachidia Airport, our services begin. Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport terminal with a private vehicle for your transfer to the city. You will check into your charming riad. If you wish, the riad can also serve you dinner (not included in the tour package). Overnight in Errachidia.
After breakfast at the riad, we head towards the Sahara. We make scenic stops in the Ziz Valley, the fossil town of Erfoud, and the historic market town of Rissani. Upon reaching Merzouga, we change our mode of transport: mounting camels (one per person) for a trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the heart of this ‘Sea of Sand,’ we find our comfortable tent camp. Here, we enjoy a stunning sunset, a magical starry night, and a included dinner.
Wake early for a breathtaking sunrise from the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, we begin a 4×4 desert exploration. We visit Khamlia village for a spiritual Gnawa music performance and then meet nomadic families to share mint tea. The tour includes a visit to the area’s old mines. Later, we transfer to a hotel in Merzouga for a free afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, we depart for Ouarzazate. We pass again through Rissani and stop for a walk in the dramatic Todra Gorge. The journey continues through the scenic Dades Valley and the fragrant Rose Valley. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the evening, where you will have dinner (included) and overnight at your hotel/riad.
After breakfast, we visit the crown jewel: Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a magnificent fortified village (ksar) famous for its film appearances. After exploration, we begin our ascent, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m) with breathtaking photo stops. We descend to Marrakech in the evening for check-in and overnight at your riad.
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a half-day tour of Marrakech. Explore historical sites such as the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the Koutoubia Mosque, and the Marrakech Museum. The tour includes visits to the famous Majorelle Garden and the Menara Garden. In the afternoon, after your sightseeing tour, we will provide a transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of our services.
You will experience a variety of authentic Moroccan lodgings: a comfortable hotel or riad in the Dades Valley, a traditional desert camp with private tents and shared bathroom facilities in the Sahara, a hotel in Merzouga, and a charming, traditionally styled riad in Ouarzazate.
You spend two nights in the Merzouga desert area, but in different types of accommodation. The second night is in a desert camp (tents) after a camel trek. The third night is in a hotel in the town of Merzouga, allowing you to enjoy hotel amenities like a private bathroom and possibly a pool after your desert experience.
Yes, our premium desert camps provide shared bathroom facilities with basic toilets and showers. Please note that while they are clean and functional, amenities are simpler than in a city hotel, in keeping with the remote desert environment. We recommend bringing personal toiletries.
The tour involves some walking over uneven terrain (e.g., in Ait Ben Haddou and Todra Gorges) and the camel ride, which requires mounting/dismounting. While we welcome families, very young children or those with significant mobility concerns may find parts challenging. Please contact us to discuss private vehicle adjustments or alternative arrangements to best accommodate your needs.
The tours we offer are examples of our most popular journeys. However, Morocco is best experienced at your own pace and interest. If you have different dates, destinations, or specific requirements, please contact us. We will happily customize a private itinerary—adjusting durations, accommodations, activities, or routes—to ensure your trip is exactly as you envision.
