Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

After breakfast, we will pick you up and depart from the bustling energy of Marrakech. Our journey begins as we drive towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains, crossing the impressive Tizi n’Tichka pass. We will make scenic stops along the way to capture breathtaking panoramic views and enjoy the crisp mountain air. Subsequently, we continue to the famous Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and ancient fortified ksar that has starred in countless films. After exploring its labyrinthine lanes, we head towards Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you can glimpse its renowned film studios. We then continue our trip, passing through the vast Skoura palm grove and the fragrant Rose Valley, before arriving in the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley for our overnight stay.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)

Following a delicious breakfast, we will get ready to leave the Dades Valley towards our next great destination: the Sahara Desert. Our route takes us through more stunning scenery and past traditional Berber villages scattered alongside the road. We will have a panoramic stop to admire the stunning Todra Valley before arriving at the magnificent Todra Gorges, where you can enjoy a short, refreshing walk between its towering rock walls, a famous spot for rock climbers. Later, we continue our drive towards the desert, passing through Erfoud, known as the capital of fossils and dates. Upon our arrival at the edge of the golden dunes of Merzouga, you will be prepared for a timeless experience: a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset to reach your authentic desert camp nestled deep in the Sahara. Overnight under a blanket of stars in the desert camp.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert Exploration – Khamlia Village – Nomads – Merzouga Oasis

We wake up early to witness what might be the most charming sunrise of your life, as the sun ascends over the endless sea of dunes—an unforgettable spectacle. After breakfast at the camp, you will trek back by camel to meet your guide. We then take a 4×4 vehicle to explore the unique surroundings of Merzouga. Our journey will take us to visit Khamlia village, inhabited by people of Sub-Saharan heritage, to enjoy the spiritual rhythms of traditional Gnawa music. We will also visit a nomadic family in their tent to share a cup of mint tea and gain insight into their way of life. After breakfast at the hotel, we bid farewell to the desert and begin our drive to the imperial city of Fez. Our scenic journey will take us through several villages and the dramatic Ziz Valley, where we will stop for panoramic views of one of Morocco’s largest palm groves. We then head into the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Talghoumt pass before reaching Midelt, nestled in the heart of the mountains. Later, we cross the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where you might spot troops of Barbary macaques. FAQ
10 Days Morocco desert tour from Marrakech

What are the accommodation types like?

You will experience a variety of authentic Moroccan lodgings: a comfortable hotel or riad in the Dades Valley, a traditional desert camp with private tents and shared bathroom facilities in the Sahara, a hotel in Merzouga, and a charming, traditionally styled riad in Ouarzazate.

Do we spend two nights in the desert?

You spend two nights in the Merzouga desert area, but in different types of accommodation. The second night is in a desert camp (tents) after a camel trek. The third night is in a hotel in the town of Merzouga, allowing you to enjoy hotel amenities like a private bathroom and possibly a pool after your desert experience.

Are there bathroom facilities at the desert camp?

Yes, our premium desert camps provide shared bathroom facilities with basic toilets and showers. Please note that while they are clean and functional, amenities are simpler than in a city hotel, in keeping with the remote desert environment. We recommend bringing personal toiletries.

Is this tour suitable for children or travelers with limited mobility?

The tour involves some walking over uneven terrain (e.g., in Ait Ben Haddou and Todra Gorges) and the camel ride, which requires mounting/dismounting. While we welcome families, very young children or those with significant mobility concerns may find parts challenging. Please contact us to discuss private vehicle adjustments or alternative arrangements to best accommodate your needs.

    Note on Customization:

The tours we offer are examples of our most popular journeys. However, Morocco is best experienced at your own pace and interest. If you have different dates, destinations, or specific requirements, please contact us. We will happily customize a private itinerary—adjusting durations, accommodations, activities, or routes—to ensure your trip is exactly as you envision.
