This 5-day journey is an immersive passage from the stark beauty of the Sahara to the historic heart of Fez. Starting from the gateway city of Errachidia, you will travel deep into the desert to experience the timeless culture of the Sahara—sharing mint tea with nomadic families, tasting traditional Berber pizza, and spending a magical night under a blanket of stars in a desert camp.
After the golden dunes, the route winds north through the breathtaking landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, where you’ll encounter Barbary macaques, before arriving in Fez. Here, a guided tour reveals the city’s ancient secrets, from its vibrant tanneries to its storied university.
Upon your arrival at Errachidia Airport, our services will begin. Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport terminal with a private vehicle for your transfer to the city of Errachidia. We will arrive at your charming riad where you will check in. You will spend the night here, and if you wish, the riad can also serve you dinner (dinner not included in the tour package).
After breakfast at the riad in Errachidia, we head towards the Ziz Valley. We will make stops in Erfoud, famous for its million-year-old fossils, and Rissani, a historic desert town with a traditional market. Continuing south, we reach Merzouga.
Here, we change our mode of transport: we leave the vehicle and mount camels (one per person) to journey into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the heart of this ‘Sea of Sand,’ we will find our comfortable tent camp. From this secluded spot, we will enjoy a stunning sunset and a magical starry night sky. Dinner and an overnight stay will take place in the camp.
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise from the dunes near the camp. After breakfast at the camp, we begin our desert exploration by 4×4. We will visit Khamlia village to experience spiritual Gnawa music.
We then continue to meet nomadic families in their traditional tents, sharing a cup of mint tea to learn about their lifestyle. Our tour also includes a visit to the area’s old mines. Later, we will head to a hotel in Merzouga where you can enjoy a free afternoon. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel.
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the desert and begin our drive to Fez. We pass through the Ziz Valley for a panoramic view of the vast palm grove, cross the High Atlas Mountains, and stop in Midelt.
Our journey continues through the Cedar Forest in the Middle Atlas, home to troops of Barbary macaques. We make a final stop in Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco,” for its unique alpine architecture. We arrive in Fez in the afternoon for check-in at a charming riad, where you will spend the night.
After breakfast at your riad, you will meet your local guide for a full-day exploration of Fez, the oldest imperial city. Our walking tour will include the Royal Palace gates, the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah), the famous Al Qaraouine University, the vibrant tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum.
After lunch, we will visit a tile cooperative and enjoy a panoramic view over the entire medina. In the late afternoon, at the agreed-upon time, we will provide a transfer to Fes International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of our services.
You spend two nights in the Merzouga desert area, but in different types of accommodation. The second night is in a desert camp (tents) after a camel trek. The third night is in a hotel in the town of Merzouga, allowing you to enjoy hotel amenities like a private bathroom and possibly a pool after your desert experience.
Yes, our premium desert camps provide shared bathroom facilities with basic toilets and showers. Please note that while they are clean and functional, amenities are simpler than in a city hotel, in keeping with the remote desert environment. We recommend bringing personal toiletries.
The tour involves some walking over uneven terrain (e.g., in Ait Ben Haddou and Todra Gorges) and the camel ride, which requires mounting/dismounting. While we welcome families, very young children or those with significant mobility concerns may find parts challenging. Please contact us to discuss private vehicle adjustments or alternative arrangements to best accommodate your needs.
The tours we offer are examples of our most popular journeys. However, Morocco is best experienced at your own pace and interest. If you have different dates, destinations, or specific requirements, please contact us. We will happily customize a private itinerary—adjusting durations, accommodations, activities, or routes—to ensure your trip is exactly as you envision.
