    Itinerary

4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FROM FES

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, we depart Fes and drive south towards the Sahara. Our first stops are in the Middle Atlas Mountains: the alpine-style town of Ifrane, known as “Morocco’s Switzerland,” and the Azrou Cedar Forest, where you may see Barbary macaques. We continue over the mountains, descending into the pre-Saharan region with a stunning panoramic stop overlooking the vast Ziz Valley palm grove. Passing through the fossil town of Erfoud, we arrive at the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Here, you will mount a camel for a serene sunset trek into the heart of the desert to reach your nomadic-style camp for an unforgettable night under the stars.

Day 2: Merzouga Sahara Desert – Khamlia Village – Nomads – Merzouga Oasis – Merzouga:

We pick you up after having your breakfast as usual, and drive to Fez. Our journey will take us through numerous villages such as Erfoud, Aoufous…, to arrive to Ziz Valley.

More lately, we start heading via High-Atlas Mountains, crossing “Tizi N Telghemt” Camel pass (1907m) to get to Midelt, and then crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains; where we meet some Barbary Apes. Afterwards, we continue our way to Fez through Ifrane which is considered as Switzerland of Morocco. Drop off in Fes, end of your desert trip.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Wake early for a mesmerizing desert sunrise before returning by camel to the village. After breakfast, we begin our drive, visiting the historic trading town of Rissani, the ancestral home of Morocco’s ruling dynasty, and exploring its lively local market. We then continue to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where 300-meter-high rock walls tower above a crystal-clear river—perfect for a refreshing walk. Our day ends in the dramatic Dades Valley, famous for its winding road and unique rock formations known as “Monkey Fingers,” where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, we depart the Dades Valley, traveling along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” We reach Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you can see its famous film studios. Next, we visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and ancient fortified village that has starred in many films and series. After exploration, we begin our final ascent, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with breathtaking views at every turn. We descend in the late afternoon, arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech, where our services conclude.

    FAQ
4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FROM FES

    Is this a private tour?

Yes, this is a private tour. You will have a dedicated vehicle and driver/guide for your group, offering a personalized pace and experience. Please note it is not a large group coach tour.

Where do we sleep on the first and second nights?

On the first night, you will stay in a comfortable hotel or traditional riad in or near the Ait Youl area. On the second night, you will experience a unique stay in a well-equipped desert camp at Merzouga, with private tents and basic shared bathroom facilities.

How long is the camel ride, and what happens with our luggage?

The camel ride to the desert camp typically lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours during sunset. Your main luggage will remain safely locked in the vehicle, which will meet you at the camp the next morning. You only need to take a small overnight bag with essentials for the desert camp.

Why does the tour end in a different city (Fes) from where it started (Marrakech)?

This is a one-way tour designed to maximize sightseeing and minimize backtracking. It allows you to experience a much wider variety of landscapes, from the Sahara to the Middle Atlas, without returning on the same route. Please ensure your travel plans account for starting in Marrakech and ending in Fez.

    Note on Customization:

The tours we offer are examples of our most popular journeys. However, Morocco is best experienced at your own pace and interest. If you have different dates, destinations, or specific requirements, please contact us. We will happily customize a private itinerary—adjusting durations, accommodations, activities, or routes—to ensure your trip is exactly as you envision.
