Day 1: Rabat International Airport – Transfer to Fes

Upon your arrival at Rabat-Salé Airport, you will be welcomed and driven directly to the imperial city of Fes via highway. After approximately a two-hour drive, check into your riad in the heart of the medina.

Day 2: Guided Tour of Fes

With a local guide, dive into the ancient medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the Royal Palace gates, the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah), the Al-Qarawiyyin University, the famous tanneries, and enjoy a panoramic view over the medina. Overnight in your riad.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in the alpine-style town of Ifrane and the cedar forests to see Barbary macaques. Descend through the dramatic Ziz Valley, pass through Erfoud, and arrive in Merzouga. Ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset to your desert camp for dinner and a night under the stars.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert Cultural Exploration

After breakfast at the camp, spend the day immersed in desert culture. Visit nomadic families in their tents to learn about their way of life and enjoy the spiritual Gnawa music of the local black communities originally from Sub-Saharan Africa. After lunch, check into a hotel in Merzouga for a free afternoon to relax. Overnight in Merzouga.

Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Depart the desert, stopping at the historic market town of Rissani and the traditional Khettara irrigation system. Continue to the stunning Todra Gorge for a walk between its towering cliffs. Drive on to the dramatic Dades Valley for the night.

Day 6: Dades Valley Hike – Rose Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate

Day 8: Marrakech – Day Trip to Essaouira

Take a day trip to the laid-back Atlantic port of Essaouira. Explore its fortified medina, vibrant fishing port, and long beaches before returning to Marrakech in the late afternoon. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech.

Do we spend two nights in the desert?

You spend two nights in the Merzouga desert area, but in different types of accommodation. The second night is in a desert camp (tents) after a camel trek. The third night is in a hotel in the town of Merzouga, allowing you to enjoy hotel amenities like a private bathroom and possibly a pool after your desert experience.

Are there bathroom facilities at the desert camp?

Yes, our premium desert camps provide shared bathroom facilities with basic toilets and showers. Please note that while they are clean and functional, amenities are simpler than in a city hotel, in keeping with the remote desert environment. We recommend bringing personal toiletries.

Is this tour suitable for children or travelers with limited mobility?

The tour involves some walking over uneven terrain (e.g., in Ait Ben Haddou and Todra Gorges) and the camel ride, which requires mounting/dismounting. While we welcome families, very young children or those with significant mobility concerns may find parts challenging.
